There are approx 200 factors that are considered as having an effect on website performance in search results and SEO. Some of these factors are fairly obvious and others are more obscure and the remainder are probably a mystery to all except the people responsible for designing and implementing search engine algorithms.

These are the more obvious that I can remember (they are not listed in any particular order, except for ease of remembering and referring to them)

These can be divided into 2 distinct classifications:

On page = what you or visitor can see (on screen text and images)

Off page = everything else (domain name / html code / hosting performance / geographical location etc.)

Website / Page Content = Freshness

Pages that have information regularly updated

Website Content = Quantity

10 pages of complete information is better than 1 page of basic information

Website Content = Quality

overall accuracy / relevance and completeness with regard to subject

Website / Page Content = Keywords

placement and density / position on page / use within page title / headings / image alt text and link anchor text

Website / Page Content = Images

Image file names / image file size / alternate text

Website / Page = Download Time

HTML Code

1) Meta Tags = Title

2) Meta Tags = Description

3) Meta Tags = Keywords

Website Incoming Links

1) Originating website = content / subject / authority / ranking / popularity / more....

2) Anchor text = keywords

3) follow or nofollow

Website Outgoing Links

1) Destination website = content / subject / authority / ranking / popularity / more...

2) follow or nofollow

Website Hosting

Location / performance speed / performance reliability uptime / Good Neighbourhood

The Internet is made up of content and most of that content is in written words. Most engines function by reviewing this written content to determine which web pages are the most pertinent to any given search. The purpose of these searches is to find answers to questions. Any search engine or directory exists to help users answer these questions as quickly as possible. Ideally, the first result of a search is the perfect answer to such questions. The digital landscape has changed dramatically over the past few years, but SEO still remains an effective and important marketing strategy. While there are many benefits to a good SEO strategy, Statistically, the first result of any search gets more clicks than any other. These clicks turn into money either through users clicking on advertisements on highly ranked websites or through the direct purchases of products sold on those web pages. For best SEO results I highly recommend using this SEO software:

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms or keywords typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content, HTML and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic. The result is a disappointment unless SEO is made with the right method. Quick and sudden rising ends with a quick and sudden fall. SEO ought to be made means confident rising without quick long jumps.

Creative Content: The necessary golden rule of SEO is the content. The originality of the content is important but creative and effective content is more important. Contents which contain useful information and news are more valuable for SEO. Therefore articles and article-like contents are the most appropriate ones for SEO.

On-Page Optimization: All the steps that you make inside the website are called on-page optimization. Suppose that you are playing a strategical mind game with Google bot and try to use your brain and creativity in this game. The source code of the page should be neat and tidy as much as possible. The right use of meta tags. Establishing H1, H2 Tag structure using a stylesheet. Using alt tags and title tags on pictures and inbound links. Optimizing on-page URL address. Use the right meta tags correctly and pay attention to the meta tags-content relevancy.

Off-Page Optimization: After Google Webmaster Tools registration, important settings like sitemap, robots.txt, and geographic target are done. Search engine submissions to Google and other big search engines are carried out. After your website is indexed in Google, backlink construction process starts. The most important thing in SEO link building is the one-way link building. You shouldn’t use the reciprocal link building method. The number of links is not important for Google SEO. The important thing is the link’s quality, link’s value and the link’s relevance. Pagerank (PR) value does not have a higher priority in the relationship between SEO and Google.

Optimization process is a long and demanding process. Keep up the work with patience and never give up. Suppose that you’re raising your little baby to become a mature human. Make minor updates or changes when necessary so as to have a better optimised website.

Dangerous penalty steps in SEO: Don’t use a copy (stolen, plagiarized) content. Don’t use hidden text or links on the background with the same color. Don’t use cloaked pages, deceptive redirects, doorway pages or duplicate site and pages. Don’t get paid links and try to not make excessive reciprocal link building. Never do spam links in SEO.

2) Unique content

3) Percentage of stuffing of keywords in the content of the page.

4) Quality of traffic that is coming to site.

1) Quality Backlinks are the most important factor of determining the SEO rank of any website

2) Also Title, description and meta keywords play an important role. Use keywords with less compitition and good traffic.

3) Page has to be well optimized inorder to craweled by the spider so you have to optimize the images(proper usage of alt tag), use keywords in links, usage of H1, H2,.... tags also matters.

4) traffic to your website is also important so you can use other ways like social networking websites, blogging, classifieds etc to generate traffic.

Other than this also there are many other things you need to consider to get good rank for example update your website with fresh and quality content, use the keywords in defining the file names etc.

The most effective way to advertise on the Internet is

to first set up a website and publish its domain name

on major search directories such as Google.com,

Yahoo.com [at http://www.google.com/addurl/?...... and

MSN.com since 85% of Internet shoppers rely on these

search directories to provide them with goods and

services. In a sense, these search directories are a

very large Internet Yellow Pages.

Nevertheless, should your website or opening webpage

fail to contain "generic" keywords, then anyone using

such "generic" queries will not be able to discover

your website. Your domain name [URL] of your website,

in a sense, will be invisible, undiscoverable.

You may want to consider some simple algorithms which,

when observed and committed in designing of a website

with placement of various critical SEO metatags that can

surely achieve a high search engine presence and

increase Internet traffic to your website. These

metatag strategies work well with published webpages

at Google and Yahoo.

Design: Should you create an extensive Flash-based

website, make sure to fill-in the property entries

such as the Title, Description and Keywords. Failing

to do so, leaves no hard HTML or ALT resource that can

be readily indexed by search robots. Also consider the

Internet audience and their incoming setup. For

example, if they are on analog/dialup, Flash webpages

take too long to load up and therefore analog users

will likely lose interest and discontinue entering the

Flash site. On the other hand, anyone on hi-speed DSL

lines, will welcome Flash pages which load quickly. So

before designing a pure Flash websitge, ask the simple

question, "Who's my end user - is he on dialup or

DSL?" And if you had to choose between these two users

for maximum marketability, then select analog users

since 80% of most resident users are still analog

Internet subscribers and pure HTML designed webpages

is best for them.

A non-Flash-based website which relies on hard text,

is far easier to be indexed by search robots. Limit

the use of stylized text saved as .gifs since as a

graphic, they are not indexable by search robots.

Avoid use of frames since any number of search robots

are unable to properly classify textual material.

Placement of SEO Metatags:

A ranking or search order does take place with Google

and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which

should consist of no more than 65 characters separated

by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic

terms, the goods and services, followed by a location

from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.

The placement of a domain name which is not generic

within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your

domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

The second metatag is the "Description" which is

usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which

best describes one's goods and services.

And the very last category - "Keywords" are also

somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural

and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries

which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which

is defined as the loading, and submission of

repetitive words into a particular metatag category.

"Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported

to Google's spamreport.com can result in the

elimination of your website from their search

directory.

Good luck!

There is no such thing as "Most Important" simply because they all play a role. It's a combination of keywords on your own website, quality of links linking to you (as in page rank, trustworthiness, and their keywords), the value your site brings in general (more pages of what Google's algorithm believes is useful information means higher search rankings) and quality of outbound links. You really do need all of these to improve your website's success.

Here are some tips to help you increase your rankings. Some are more "weighty" than others, especially good, relevant, original content and back links to your site from other well-regarded sites. You may also get penalized if you try to "spam/scam" your search engine rankings.

* Do not use hidden text or keywords, small text, comments, popular but unrelated words, or any other shady SEO practice to try to 'cheat' to gain better search engine rankings. This is dishonest and considered to be a type of search engine spamming. Many search engines penalize sites for spamming as soon as it is detected.

* It's a good idea to repeat a document's title, keywords, and search terms throughout the page (preferably sooner in the text rather than later), but do it appropriately.

* Use keywords and search terms throughout the page, including in regular text (but preferably sooner rather than later). However, don't overdo it. The site should be easy to read and not cluttered with keywords.

* Get sites that are popular, relevant to your own site, and have good rankings to link to your site. The anchor text that is used to link to your site is also important and should contain your site's keywords and search terms. Building incoming links gradually instead of all at once may also be better. Avoid link farms that are designed to deceive the search engines. Using link farms may result in a site being penalized.

* Use meta description and keywords tags in the head section. While some search engines may not use these tags, some do.

* NEVER do anything for the purpose of trying to trick a search engine. Tricks can often be detected or be reported to the search engine by a competitor.

* Each page on a site should have its own unique title. Every title should contain appropriate keywords and search terms that are relevant to the page. Don't just stuff keywords in the title. The first words in the title are more likely to result in higher rankings than subsequent words, so use important keywords first when reasonable. The title should also be something that a user will want to click on when it's listed on a search engine. A good title is also important when a visitor bookmarks a page.

* Using the "alt" attribute for images is not just good for accessibility, it's good for search engines too. Use the "alt" attribute to describe images but use relevant keywords and search terms in the description when appropriate, but don't overdo it by cramming in too many keywords. Consider using/adding graphic images, photos, or illustrations on important keyword-targeted pages with the important keywords used in the alt text.

* Consider including common misspellings of popular keywords in the keywords meta tag. Also, avoid including keywords that don't also appear elsewhere in the page.

* Important! The actual copy of a page (the text that a visitor sees) is very important. Make sure the copy is high-quality, information-rich content that visitors will want to read, share, and link to. Include keywords and search terms throughout the copy when appropriate (preferably sooner in the text rather than later). For best results, use original content and try to include at least 200 words of copy in each page.

* Avoid using JavaScript to insert tags and content into web pages. Don't use JavaScript to link to other documents. Search Engines don't run JavaScript. It's also a bad idea because it should not be assumed that JavaScript is available (and turned on) in the user's browser.

* Many elements support the "title" attribute that is used for annotation (do not confuse the "title" element with the "title" attribute). Consider annotating tags like "a" with something like title="Read about ". Annotate with keywords and search terms. Some browsers, like Firefox, will also display the value of the "title" attribute when the user hovers the mouse over content with a "title" attribute.

* Register your domain name for at least three years. A longer registration time means a more credible site (it's less likely to be considered a spam site by search engines).

* Provide fresh content on your site from time to time to keep it from "decaying". Provide quality original content that people will want to link to and share. The more quality content on your site, the better.

* Following accessibility standards may improve search engine rankings. Use "alt", "title", and table "summary" attributes whenever relevant and possible. Use keywords and search terms in them but keep them accurate. Using this program's accessibility checking can help.

* Don't use "id=" as a parameter in URLs as some search engines like Google won't include these URLs in their listings.

* Consider linking to one or more high ranking sites that are related to the site you're promoting. Use your site's keywords in the link text if you can.

* Look at your site's referral logs to see what keywords people are using to find your site. Use this
