Question:
How do I get my dog breeder website to be on google's first page?
Dogs coming outta my ears

I have heard of AdSense but I can't use that, it would get very expensive. I am only a hobby breeder and only have litters once in a blue moon, but want a website that shows my championship dogs. So say I open a website called: www.havanesebreeder.com (not exactly that name, it's probably taken but something with havanese breeder in it.)
So pretend it's www.havanesebreeder.com. How do I make my website show up when someone searches for havanese breeder in google or yahoo? I know there is a "submit site to google" thing but they didn't put it up. Is there some way I can get people find my website on google?

Thanks so much if you can help

The first thing you need to do is manually submit your URL to google and any other search engine you would like to show up in.(It may take sometime for them to index your page) Each Page of your website should be structured around a set of keywords. For Instance if you had a page on breeding poodles, "poodles and breeding" should show up multiple times on the page. Each page should have a set of optimized keywords. Then you should use things like social bookmarking and video marketing to blast your site all over the internet. For Video marketing there is a free service called tubemogul it's awesome. The keywords and tags are important here too and make sure to put your site address in the description box. If you use a free service like tubemogul you can possibly see your website on the front of google in a couple of day, even before they have indexed it.

I am a huge proponent of ezinearticles.com. To give you a real, live example of why it's so effective...I posted an article to their site two days ago and it's already on page one in Google. If you Google this exact term "online based jobs" you will see my article titled "Top 5 Online Based Jobs - Have You Considered These?" The date posted is 3/23/10 and today is 3/25/10.

Why? Because I was very careful to pick keywords that are in high demand and wrote a very short, to-the-point article about that subject. The author resource box at the bottom of the article points to my website. Rather than having to wait for days or even months sometimes to get a webpage ranked in Google, articles can do the job for you immediately if done well.

The goal is to get people to click through to my website for more information.

I'll post a link to the article that I'm talking about.

Submitting to google alone isn't enough to get to the first page of Search Engines. And I agree that adsense wouldn't be worth it considering the amount of money you'll have to pay. However, if you use article marketing correctly, you will be able to dominate the first pages of search engines for various keyword niches which have to do with your particular website subject.

Article marketing is very easy, effective, and free, so it's definitely the best way to get to the top without spending any money on advertising.

One other great result would be that you would be getting your product in front of those who are already searching for a particular answer, so you'll be targeting customers, credit card in hand.

Getting on page one is always a challenge, for competitive terms it would be easier to win the lottery, if you mention your breed the maximum number of times proper writing allows you might get near page one for that particular search term.

I had a look at the last entry on page on for the search term "purebred dog" dogbiz .com is has 1,876 pages and 6,449 links from other sites.

Searching for: purebred poodle dogs, I find the 10th result on page 1 is yourpurebredpuppy.com, it has a similar 1,338 pages and 6000 links from other sites. (I expected the numbers to be lower this more unique search)

All this is just meant to remind people that reaching page one should be viewed as a long term goal.

Providing plenty of original content, like a new article once or twice a week would go toward getting ranked.

You alternative, pay per click advertising, like Adwords is useful for 'seasonal' business like yours in that you can only turn on ads for the short time you have a litter available, adwords ads can be geo targeted to only be shown to people within driving distance.

Though craigslist doesn't allow pet for sale ads (San Fransisco animal rights values?) don't overlook backpage.com they have free or paid enhanced ads.

Unfortunately quite a few online breeders are scammers and you will have to sift through a lot of them before you find someone legit. Just be sure to watch out for people offering to GIVE you the dog and pay for shipping cost but only what your cc number to pay for the dog kennel, people wanting your name, address, phone number - things they don't need to know if you are just talking to them. Most scammers won't answer the questions you ask them instead they just keep demanding your personal info.

Marketing your Website using Directories and Website Links

The next step is to get links to your website. This is one of the most important things that you can do to help your website with regard to internet marketing and search engine results. To do this you will need to list your website on as many websites and directories as possible. Directories operate in one of 3 ways: Paid Listing Directory, Free and Reciprocal Link Directories.

Paid Listing Directory: for a listing fee your website is listed, often these are higher quality directories as only serious website owners and business's will pay to be listed. These are usually the fastest way to get listed and get links to your website, as the paid listing directories are run as a business. There are niche/specialist and general directories.

Free Directories: it can take a long time to get your website listed. As the service is free, there may be little or no control of the quality of websites being listed.

DMOZ is the most important free directory, it can take quite some time to get listed, but worth the effort, follow submission guidelines very carefully.
