Submitting my site in free web directories. Most of the sites are giving me two options:
1.Regular links (no follow-it is written in many sites)
2.Reciprocal links
These are options for the free web directory sites to submit your site.
Note: These are high PR sites.
I do not want to increase my PR, my target is to increase my traffic, I am doing SEO to get on the first page of search engines.
Please advice with good referrals , which type of links should I choose and why?
which type of links are good for which purposes?

Hi,

Directory submissions for SEO is somewhat of an ‘overcooked’ practice. That is everyone who set out on an SEO campaign for the last few years has had directory submission as part of the campaign.

This has led to a massive number of poor quality directories appearing that offer little or no value and are frankly a waste of time.

Having said that, directory submission can have a number of positive effects, IF you take the time to find high quality and relevant directories AND take the time to write specific profiles AND post in the relevant category on that directory. Running a campaign that includes directories can also help develop a ‘natural’ link building campaign, so in my opinion they can be worthwhile, if done correctly.

To answer your question directly, here goes:

1. Regular links (no follow) – These won’t pass any PR as you suggest, although you may get some traffic from users clicking on your link. Make sure you add your submission to the correct category on the directory to pick up targeted traffic.

2. Reciprocal links. I wouldn’t chose this option, the value of this type of link is highly devalued these days and you would be wasting your time in all honesty.

You say your target is to reach the first page of search engines, to help achieve this you will need to find ‘do follow’ links. This is the type of link that acts as a vote for your site and will help you to achieve a first page rank.

If I was you, I would spend more time making relevant blog comments (adding to the conversation, not just ‘great post’), writing and submitting unique articles to directories and doing come competitor link analysis instead of spending time generating links from directories. This will deliver traffic AND help you move up the search engine rankings.

Hope this helps...

Yes that's true, you may get banned with too many reciprocal links. When directories offer nofollow, it won't be of great use to boost your site's ranking in the serp (search engine results page) but it still serve as an advertisement for interested surfer. I think very few offer dofollow link. One that I know offers dofollow listing is seofriendly-directory and the best is that they offer deeplink and it's at $3 per listing and for each listing your get to add a nice description. This might be good for you.

Else, keep going with your SEO... Articles, videos, blog, forums etc... and all the best...

I'd be careful about reciprocal links, especially on those you can find online for free -- your site may get penalized for that and it can cost you a lot ( there's this guy who even lost $4 million because of that ). If you like to drive traffic to your site, you need to optimize it for Google Caffeine by making the pages upload faster, putting fresh content, optimizing your images and videos, and getting viral. Search engines love Twitter and Facebook these days.

Too many reciprocal links can lead to a penalty with search engines, so be careful there. No follow links don't pass pagerank juice. My advice would be to locate a nice list where neither of the options exists. I personally like info.vilesilencer.com but there are other such lists as well.

Always choose regular links, directories will help you to increase your PR.

Directories will send limited number of traffic, you cant expect huge traffic from directories
