If you're from the UK I recommend http://www.hosttell.com/one They are one of the leading European hosting companies (hosting over 500 000 websites), and they currently have a promotion in the UK. They are offering free hosting and a domain (you have to pay the £9.00 setup fee and that's it). Every plan includes Photo Gallery, WebEditor (so you can build a website without knowledge of HTML), Google Adwords coupon (so you can advertise your website on google for free) and a lot more. Check them out.

If you need more than 3GB of disk space:

I recommend either Godaddy Economy or the Deluxe plan:

http://www.hosttell.com/godaddy/

(prices from $4.74/month - $6.99/month)

Price of a discounted domain with any hosting plan is $2.19

or Dreamhost http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html

Their standard price is $9.95/month ($119.40/year)

but you can use the promo code PLUS and get

$50 discount +2 Free domain names.

Disk space: Unlimited

Bandwidth: Unlimited

2 Free domain names

Unlimited domains and subdomains

Price: $5.78/month ($69.40/year)

Go to Godaddy and join their domain resellers program. There are several 'domain resellers programs' available, but godaddy is the safest and has the best customer service in the industry.

When you set up a resellers program you become the company selling the domain name. You can use godaddy's templates, or make your own. Your clients believe they are buying from you - when in fact - everything is linked through godaddy. They manage everything. All you do is meet people on the net, socialize, and sell. Setting up an online business could not be easier.

Do not try one of the FREE systems. I did that when I started selling online and found out that it was free to start - but there are so many fees and services needed later than you never got paid. I had one that earned 22 sales in 5 months - each over $100 - and I made $15.00.

I even included the link to Godaddy's service. They do charge, but if you notice they give you an advertising credit worth what you paid. http://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/wwd_landing.asp

You can build your own website using different software. Dreamweaver is the industry standard but can be quite expensive. Microsoft Frontpage can be used but is quite old now and may not conform with the W3 consortium web standards. Microsoft also offer Web Expression but i haven't used this. I think the Microsoft products are user friendly and quite easy to use. You also might want to try the Free Serif software for web design. It is a good base to start from and costs nothing to download. You will also need web hosting and a domain name. A Google search will provide you with a list of companies who offer these services. You might want to try an FTP program to upload your sites to your hosting company. Try Coffee Cup or FTP Works. These are free downloads also. Finally check out www.w3schools.com for some great tutorials about web design and also explanations of HTML, XHTML, CSS etc. These are invaluable if you want to get into web design.

We started our site http://www.shareworld.co.uk about 4 years ago and learnt as we went along (the hard way). If we had known what we know now we would have done it completely differently!

We are trying to impart our knowledge gained (quite substantial) on a new site http://www.ds32.com/beginners.htm

We are trying to suggest the best way for different websites to be started. The reasoning is that different website goals need different solutions, there is not a one size fits all. Please have a look I am sure you will be impressed.

I'm always open to JV's on website ideas, so I'd like to hear a little more on yours.

The best way will depend on your input, either financially or time.

Time = learn html/css/photoshop - create website

Financial = pay someone to do all the above for you.

From a word document laying out what words will be required on each page and a 'flow diagram' on how the pages will be linked together is the way to start.

You can purchase your domain name cheap at www.godaddy.com. They also have tools to build your own website online and insert your own text, pics, etc. They do have online shopping cart set up too so you can sell whatever you're selling. The tools make it easy enough to where you dont have to know HTML or be a designer.
