what would it take for you to help others?

Question

for my class project, i am doing research/designing for global giving, which is a place where they list causes and people can find a cause to support. so i'm just wondering, what makes you want to contribute to a cause or help others? is it seeing people living their real lives in negative environments? any answer will help. thanks. =)

If I know somebody needs help and I am able I will help them.That is if they try to help themselves.For instance if somebody can't pay their light bill but they do have a job and are trying I will help them pay it.But if they don't have a job and wait for everybody else to take care of things I won't help them.I was a single mother a couple of years ago and I needed a part for my truck.A man that came into the store I worked at got the part for me and had it put on by a mechanic.He said he knew I was trying real hard to make ends meet.I was a hard worker, but he said if I had had a lazy husband who wouldn't help me and I tolerated that, than he said he wouldn't have helped me.I hope this helps you out ( see, I'm trying to help YOU Haha)Good luck

Not sure if this will help you or not. My daughter (17) told me about her friend who's parents had their electricity cut to their house and don't have money to have it turned back on. It was really hot and I couldn't imagine them staying in those conditions. The parents could handle it but were concerned for their kids, one being diabetic and needing their insulin refrigerated. So, not knowing these people, except that my daughter went to school with the oldest, I let the two girls come live with me. The oldest is still with us, the youngest didn't like having 2 "older sisters" so she found a friend to stay with. I help the mom and dad out when I can, but we struggle as it is. It was only supposed to be for a couple weeks but has lasted much longer because they lost their home as well and have to save up to get a new place to live. I felt bad for the family and knew I myself had gone through some really bad luck, but realized from talking to them that things can always get worse. You never realize how small your own problems are until you hear someone else's. I am doing my christian duty and would hope that if the roles were reversed, there would be someone out there that could help me.

I think you have to be the type of person who is giving to begin with when it comes to helping others. I have always been giving because it gives me a sense of joy to help others. I have been blessed in my life. I came from a good home, have a good education, have three beautiful, healthy children, naturally with some troubles along the way. I have endured. I just can't see how anyone could ever walk away from a situation with closed eyes, and not help. I always believe whatever I can do to bring the world a little closer, a little more understanding with each other and finally peace and harmony will make me glad I'm here. Every day above the ground is a good day!

For me personally, it doesnt take a thing. I've always helped others just for the reason that I was able to. Some people can. Some people cant. I'm not just talking financially. It can be anything. Mosltly its just being there for someone and letting them know that you are willing to help them through whatever their predicament is.
