Write a press release for the local paper. Include what your company is about and for more details they can check out your website.

Google adwords might work for big or small companies. But you have to pay.

Why not try some free advertising websites.

There are four major steps to advertise your website:

1) SEO (search engine optimization) - This includes adding relevant meta tags to your html pages and using good coding practices so that search engines can index your content

2) Press release - You can buy a press release at prweb.com http://www.prweb.com which costs about $200 per release. These are extremely effective because once the press release goes live, you will instantly have hundreds of news feeds and bloggers linking to your content (press releases are a primary source of news)

3) Getting other websites to link to you - This not only helps your SEO, but it also directs targeted customers to your website (meaning they are more likely to use your services)

4) Paid advertising - There are lots of people that provide online advertising (Google, Yahoo, Facebook, Myspace just to name a few) but I've found that Adollo http://www.adollo.com is the most effective way to advertise without spending alot of money

there are several ways you can do this. if you are looking for a national audience, you have two good choices. the first is social networking. twitter, facebook, and myspace is your best friend. they are free, but they only get about a 1-2% click rate, which isnt good. the second for a national audience is adwords. i havent heard that many bad things about it. the only bad thing about it is that you run out of clicks by your third day, but it does build a huge amount of traffic over those few days.

if you want to build your local audience (which it sounds like you do) you have one good choice. adzzoo is a new company that uses geotargeting technology to push your website to a local audience around your business. if you dont have a website (and even if you do), adzzoo will build you a website for free to help build your traffic even more. http://www.adstoreonline.com can give you more information on adzzoo.

if it were me, i would go with adzzoo so you can build your local customer base for your small business. hope this helps!!

There are many different ways to advertise, so I suggest looking at the alternatives before you start as it depends on what business you are in.

There is a good site which gives you an overview of the different types such as AdSense, AdWords, Affiliate Marketing, Article Marketing, ClickBank, Copy writing, Email Marketing, Internet Marketing, Business Models, Outsourcing, Market Research, SEM, SEO, Time Management and Traffic Generation.

Have a look and decide which you suits you and your business, as there is no point in using a marketing method you are not comfortable with. Then focus on one method and make it work.

Internet marketing is one area where the experts will all have their own preferred method and will tell you all the reasons why other methods do not work.

Social networking sites, social bookmarking, classified ads. There are several ways. When you're ready to spend some money look into Google Adwords but do your homework first. It's tricky and many have lost money by not knowing how to use it.
