There are so many options when it comes to web design and web hosting. I like to compare it to going out to find a new set of clothes. You really have to find the best fit for you. You can do that by comparing many web hosts. First comparing feature-by-feature then dollar-for-dollar. This will ensure the best fit for you and get you the most for your money. Doing your homework (due diligence) will pay off in the long run. You can certainly take a look at my web host of choice as one option.

If you know how to make a web page, then it will be very easy. Just let me remind you what a professional website is:

First of all, a site with good texts.

Second, a site with a comfortable design and an intelligent use of colours.

Third, a site with a clear navigation system.

If you want to install a shopping cart, that will depend on the kind of hosting package you will use for it. Some hosting packages even include the shopping cart for you. If you don't know how to do that, a merchant account should be enough.

Costs:

Domain name: $10/year

Hosting for a small site: $12/year.

Merchant account: Nothing

Hope this helps.

If you want a professional website you have 2 choices.

Hire a professional or learn as much about website design as a professional does and then build it yourself.

There is no program that will create a unique professional site for you. Many can use templates that will give you a nice looking site but not a unique one. Want a site that looks like a bunch of others already on the web?

There are lots of online tools and lots of offline tools like Dreamweaver that make it easier to create a professional site and some ecommerce packages that can provide the functionality of a professional site.

Take a look at CubeCart or Joomla/VirtueMart or X-Cart if you insist on doing it yourself but be prepared to learn some PHP or ASP and HTML if you want professional results.

If you have limited number of products just use paypal shopping cart program. You just enter info for each product and then paste the generated html code into your website code. Design the rest of the website in dreamweaver. Make sure your site is easy to navigate, easy to load, and looks professional. Everyone thinks they are a designer, but most people don't have a clue what looks good to everyone. Get some design books, such as 'Non-Designers Design Book', and read as much as you can about it. Then read as much you can about promoting your site and effective methods of advertising.

Hope that helps some. Good luck!

there is a program called "website tonight" that you can pay through godaddy when you buy your domain name , to make your site with. if it will be an e-commerce site (accept money) you may want to have a professional develop it. What is the business selling?
